Fancy pants people study Symbology, or maybe Semiotics. I'd love to take a course along these lines just to better understand various visual interpretations in different cultural contexts. I think it's fascinating and I could dork out about it all day.
But until then, I like to toss my own symbols into things the good old fashioned way, on a whim! For some reason, I like when things "make some kind of sense" or have some kind of clever meaning besides it's function or surface appeal.
Our friends back in Germany were married last weekend. So before I left, I assembled a collection of vintage German buttons displayed in a board that had holes cut into (but not through) it.
Call me corny, but buttons seem like a very appropriate wedding gift because their function is simply to take two separate things and hold them together. So there you go. TJ's deep thought of the day.
As for my friends Uli and Olaf, I'm wishing you many happy healthy years ahead.
I'm grateful I took some photos of this before I used the Diamond Glaze because it dried rather cloudy and sadly with lots of bubbles. I'm thinking that as the substrate dried and formed along the back of the buttons that trapped air couldn't quite escape...
Oh well, nothing's perfect - including marriage! So I'm pretending I planned that cloudy uneven effect too...
That's a beautiful thought about buttons. You took the time and thought to make something special for your friends so I'm sure they love it whether it's cloudy or not.

What an interesting way to showcase the buttons! Perfect symbolism for a new marriage.

OMG, this is just beautiful! What a great wedding-gift.
Bummed to hear about the clouds & bubbles, because that's my biggest concern with my bottlecap-tray and the reason that I might opt for a glass-plate and grouting as a finish.
Proper mail coming soon... xoxo

That's cool. I'd never have thought of that for a gift. And some of those buttons, they're kinda fancy!
As for the Symbolism of the buttons, that's real cool too.
