After deciding that my current journal needed to be more original, I have now named it Sampler Resolutionary. There are samplers all over the place as well as the word itself, so although it's not super edgy... it feels good, and it feels like mine.
The important part to me is the "resolutionary" aspect, the play on "revolutionary" while tying it into the New Years resolutions I make each year for every letter of the alphabet.
When cutting the cover page out, I had originally intended to sew a paper into the window from behind. But incidentally, the next page in the book is a linoleum print of the alphabet that now peeks through the hole. It lines up on the section of e-f-g-h and text that says "think before you speak." Cool accident!
The other thing I added was it's claim to be "an annual typographical overhaul" as well as the inclusion of the extra letters of the German alphabet, featuring the umlaut. More on the umlaut to come, stay tuned!
This journal is currently 30 single sheets, front and back. Here are some warpy pics of the project in it's entirety. It's a work-in-progress continually changing as the year unfolds! When I see it all laid out like this, it makes me think about making scans of every page and then piecing it back together into a giant poster.
This would make a fantastic poster and would be so interesting to look at over and over.
The accidental window really works and the "featuring the umlaut" is very cute.
Off to celebrate the 4th of July here in the US!
