Yesterday was Fronleichnam or the Feast of Corpus Christi. I have no clue what was going on in greater Germany, but here in our village people created all these really cool public "natural installations" from cuts of grass, flower blooms, pebbles and gravel. They set out yellow and white flags, candles, flowers, statues and shrines. The main street was closed to vehicle traffic and the same firefighters who hoist the Maibaum were there except in their dress uniforms complete with official walkie-talkies!
This angel here is a detail from the display in front of a shrine I posted about before. Something that was already so stunning, now brought to the next level. I clearly need to learn more about this custom!!
Next year maybe I should wake up early and capture some of the actual installation of these artworks and attempt to interview the people behind them.
For now, here's a glimpse...I'm sorry about the picture quality but I only had my iPhone on hand. I think the love behind the these acts comes through anyway... beautiful.
It inspires me to think more about projects that don't necessarily have any longevity and instead are for the mere act of making them and expressing something for only a short time.
Hey tj,
Germany looks like a beautiful place! Art everywhere you look! Happy Friday friend!

Wow, TJ, these creations are beautiful...and the time/effort element involved in constructing these in a public place speaks volumes, too.

A public holiday only in the Catholic länder of Germany. First Thursday after Trinity Sunday (the Sunday after Pentecost). Very popular in Spain and Portugal too.
