Fasching, also known as Fastnacht, started here on the 11th of November and is the German version of Karneval or Mardi Gras.
Here are some old shots from our previous bird's eye view. I miss our city apartment at every parade!
As you can see, gigantic tractors pull beautiful floats with blaring music and wild people throwing candy to the crowd. There are safety workers who flank the huge tires and basically keep the scrambling children from coming too close when scrounging the treats that have fallen everywhere. (As a mother of a toddler, you can only imagine the stress of this kind of fun)...
Some beautiful old costumes come out as well as wacky home-made statements. I loved the group of "old women" I had seen march past and when I went outside to find them and ask for some better photographs of their costuming, they were actually a group men!
As I went through the crowd, many people offered to include me in the photographs but then I would get my camera back and instead of shooting the group, they had only zoomed in on me. Or my eye, or my teeth. Hah, hah, hah, and who says Germans aren't funny...??
