This beautiful roadside shrine was near a town named Leutzdorf. I'm so grateful the hubby is always willing to turn around, pull off the side of the road, entertain the 2yo strapped in back and wait whenever I get the urge to gather photographic evidence of such unexpected beauty...
"Kommt, Steht Still und Betet" means "Come, Be Still and Pray." Although most shrines I see are quite old, this one is dated 1994. I'm wondering if that only applies to the paint job.
Lovely yet strange because it's set on the edge of the woods where there is nowhere convenient to pull off the roadway and any sudden desire to pray would most certainly affect the traffic on the 2-way road, and possibly cause an accident.
Unless I find a roadside shrine with a pull-off lane, I'll just have to keep on the lookout for a roadside chapel. Marked for the drivers on the Autobahn exit signs, I always wonder if there are foreigners like me on their knees, hands clasped beneath their chins, and coming to terms with just how fast these Germans actually drive!
