This album contains spreads I have created for a European Altered Book group run by my friend Jacqueline.
We do "Round Robins" where everybody preps a book and then sends it on to the next person in the group each month. Everyone participating creates a spread in one another's book and in the end your book is returned to you full of everyone else's art. When your book "comes home" the world practically stops turning. You tackle your postal delivery person and stop in your tracks as you unwrap it and take in all the energy, love, time, creativity and work that others have given you.
Altered books are somewhat controversial. Some people feel that creating art within the pages of a book is inappropriate.
I personally use books that are already in poor condition (missing pages), stained, ripped or unreadable. Lately I am finding old albums (postcard, photo, wedding) and thinking about altering those...
